Legendarium is a project featuring Heroes, Goddesses, Fantastical Creatures, Medieval Beasts, and Paths we choose. It weaves together familiar images into its narrative, whether they are clearly understood or only vaguely. It is reminiscent of knightly legends, fairy tales, creatures from ancient bestiaries, and forbidden lands where dragons reside, wondrous plants grow, and rivers flow backwards.

About Legendarium

Legendarium Tarot is a deck based on the classic English tarot system. However, some of the arcana cards offer interpretations beyond traditional meanings. The work has been influenced, directly or indirectly, by Aleister Crowley. Drawing inspiration from the Thoth tarot, Legendarium had a distinct level of sarcasm and straightforward responses, avoiding vague metaphors and equivocations.

We recommend interpreting the tarot spread by reading the arcana according to their apparent meanings. If the conclusions appear unclear or ambiguous, asking additional questions or rephrasing the task may be necessary. As is commonly known, the more precise and clear the question, the more accurate and clear the answer will be.

In the world of Legendarium, there are no pre-made, definitive solutions, indisputable truths, or final judgments. The resolution of the story is not immediately apparent. The answer to the seeker’s question must be sought by themselves, relying on the hints provided by various beings encountered on their journey. The seeker can also turn to their most trusted advisers, the heart and the mind, for guidance.

The Legendarium can answer your most burning questions, but only if you’re willing to embark on a journey to distant lands with it. Arm yourself with your knowledge, experience, and imagination. Your journey begins right here and right now.

While working on the Legendarium, we contemplated the nature of symbolism and endeavored to discover our expressive language. The visual style of the deck is a rough yet delightful tribute to the illustrations of the Marseille tarot, with a limited color palette. The “missing” colors in the deck are completed by our imagination. It pleases us to think that you can imagine the shimmering scales of mermaid bodies, the golden eyes of dragons, and the delicate green leaves on which morning dew glistens, all from a two-dimensional image with a limited color palette.

Major Arcana

Tarot is a flexible tool that adapts to changing times. It is unnecessary to exalt any method of working with a tarot deck as the ultimate standard, and rituals should not be treated as absolutes.

Otherwise, we would not have seen incredibly unique decks created by artists who have departed from traditional forms, broken away from familiar images, experimented, and reimagined symbolism. Even despite these incredible transformations, these projects are still with us.

*Author’s note: I believe that a card randomly drawn during shuffling of the deck can often tell you more than a detailed spread because it is the spirit of the Legendarium showing you this card.

Guidebook preview

To provide insight into the guidebook's content, please read the descriptions of the first two cards. Each description follows a consistent and highly detailed style. The guidebook contains 188 pages with some introductory notes and then two pages per card description.

The Minstrel

The Carefree Wanderer

Even in moments of mortal danger, he can only think about the beautiful ballad that could result from this adventure.

While seeking the elixir of eternal youth, alchemists are encouraged to venture into the realm of the Minstrel, embarking on a thrilling journey in search of muses and extraordinary revelations. The Minstrel draws inspiration from the entire world, never experiencing boredom and always restless. He embodies a whirlwind of ideas and perpetual motion, defying boundaries and restrictions. Threats cannot silence him; even without pen and paper, he will continue to create poetry.

What is life to the Minstrel? It’s a source of inspiration for storylines. What is love to the Minstrel? It’s a reason for a lovely ballad. What does death mean to the Minstrel? It’s a reason for a beautiful yet melancholic melody.

He leaves morality and philosophy to those who enjoy sitting within four walls. He doesn’t get caught up in trivial matters; he doesn’t even notice them. Instead, he focuses on what is important. He will never criticize others for lacking manners, but he is likely to notice treacherous or deceitful behavior. He sees the mountain but fails to notice the sharp stone beneath his feet.

Do not mistake the Minstrel’s perception of naivety, inexperience, or spontaneity for foolishness. If you don’t understand a certain phenomenon, that doesn’t mean it’s meaningless.

Quintessence: I desire this, and that is the most compelling reason to act!

Advice: Sometimes, take a moment to look down at your feet!

Meditation: Raise your head to the sky and imagine where you would go right now if nothing and no one held you back. Are you exactly where you want to be?

The Traveller

Hunter of Beasts

In journeys through uncharted and wild lands filled with illustrious heroes and malicious beasts, it is crucial not to mistake one for the other.

“You cannot tell fire not to burn, nor can you tell the Wayfarer to stay in one place.” “One who is a river cannot simply flow with the current.” The Wayfarer knows no other home but the eternal road. Brief stops along the way are only moments of rest in an endless journey. Seasons, days, and nights may change, but the road remains a constant companion.

The strength of the Wayfarer lies in their ability to rely solely on themselves, their knowledge, their hands, and the tools they possess. They are energetic, straightforward, and possess a profound comprehension of the essence of life. They are not prone to exaggeration or portraying it as darker than it really is. Their minds are open to anything.

The Wayfarer’s freedom belongs to no one but oneself and one’s principles. Wayfarers’ morals and notions of justice are always shaped by their experiences. Imposing outside opinions on them or changing their views through theoretical debates is impossible. Any theoretical boat will inevitably crash against the iceberg of Wayfarer’s practical experience, observations, and intellect.

The Wayfarer personifies talent multiplied by ambition and experience. They inspire and attract others with their exceptional qualities. They cannot go unnoticed, but like any flame burning too brightly, they can scorch or frighten.

Quintessence: If I undertake a task, I ensure that I execute it with excellence.

Advice: Loneliness can bring melancholy even to the most skilled swordsmen and magicians. Allow others to get closer to you.

Meditation: Everything is within my control; I am responsible for my life and capable of changing what I dislike.
